What if I lose my Padlock?
If you lose your padlock, you can use an emergency unlock within the app. We provide 3 emergency unlocks to all users.
Striking the right balance between the effectiveness of Padlock, and the risk of being locked out of your phone is something we've put a lot of thought in to, and is something we're still actively working on. We've found that 3 emergency unlocks is more than enough for when emergency situations occur, but not so many that you'd ever want to use it in a non emergency situation.
However, we're always looking to improve Padlock, and we're always open to feedback if you've got any suggestions for how we can do this better.
Can't I just use the standard screen time controls on my iPhone already?
While screen time reminders might work for some people, they can easily be ignored and bypassed. They just act as a reminder, they don't actually restrict anything. It's all to easy to ignore the reminder and tell yourself "5 more minutes" or "just one quick look won't hurt".
Instead, Padlock completely blocks access to the apps which you've chosen to lock up. The only way to access them is to go to wherever you've stashed your Padlock device and tap it against your phone. By default the app is not deletable when Padlock mode is enabled.
The effort of grabbing Padlock from another room greatly outweighs the desire to bypass the restrictions so your apps stay locked up and you stay focused.

Where should I put Padlock when my apps are locked?
For most people we recommend putting the Padlock in a cupboard in another room and just forgetting about it, only ever disabling Padlock mode when you really need to. Most people find that this is more than enough to stop any tempting scrolls.
However, if you find yourself frequently unlocking your phone, you could go a step further and could give the Padlock to a friend or family member to look after, or even store it in a local deposit box.
